The signing of the City Twinning Agreement with Iloilo City highlights the 72nd Anniversary celebration of Bacolod City last October 19.
The Iloilo delegation led by Rep. Jerry TreƱas and Mayor Jed Mabilog was tendered a welcome dinner at the MassKara Hall of the New Government Center last October 18 night.
Guest of honor and speaker for the celebration is Senate Majority Leader, Senator Juan Miguel
Zubiri who will be introduced by Councilor Al Victor Espino, chair of the Charter Day celebration committee, said Rodel Parcon, secretary to the mayor.
Part of the celebration is the Banwahanon Award whose recipients are outstanding employees of the city government, executives and taxpayers.
He said the Twinning Agreement cites both cities as “fraternal twins” as “we have the same language, race and culture”.
Vice Mayor Thaddeus Sayson said the Twinning Agreement is very significant because this would mean a joint undertaking with the city government of Iloilo for mutually beneficial projects and programs.
He pointed out that both Iloilo and Bacolod have signed sisterhood pacts with other cities in other regions so the relationship between both LGUs can be further strengthened with the agreement.
"Twinning offers a unique and rewarding exchange of ideas, best practices in governance, cultural, social, professional, technical, agricultural, economic, educational phases, tourism and investment, improved delivery of basic services and all other areas of mutual interest in the spirit of friendship and understanding."
